Upon learning about OIG Exclusion and their colossal importance to health care organizations, I am well aware that when an individual or entity is placed on the exclusion list; they are banned from participation in federal healthcare programs (such as Medicare or Medicaid). This can significantly impact their ability to hire, bill, and work with vendors. Unfortunately, many people do not realize this until they have compliance issues with OIG exclusions. Conducting routine checks and keeping accurate records can go a long way in assisting an organization with avoiding audits or issues related to them later. Although it seems like a small step is involved in doing so, it is an action that will take a great deal of stress off an organization during the audit process.
