Can Overcrowding in a Vase Make Flowers Wilt Faster?

I love large, full arrangements, but sometimes a vase becomes so crowded that the stems are tightly packed together. I am wondering whether this can negatively affect the flowers rather than simply making the arrangement look fuller.I would like to discuss:

  • Whether stems need enough room inside the vase
  • If overcrowding affects water circulation
  • How many stems are appropriate for different vase sizes
  • Whether removing a few flowers can improve the arrangement
  • If crowded foliage can cause water quality problems

While reading about How to Make Flowers Last Longer, I started thinking about arrangement density as another factor people may overlook. Does giving stems more space noticeably improve bouquet freshness?
