I'm hoping to get some honest opinions from people who've actually used Memory Vault Box or a similar mail-in digitization service.Over the weekend, I started cleaning out my parents' attic and found several boxes full of old family memories. There are hundreds of printed photos, a stack of 35mm negatives, quite a few photo slides, and even some old VHS tapes that haven't been played in years. Some of these photos date back to the 1970s and 1980s, and I realized they're slowly deteriorating. The colors on a few prints have already started fading, and some negatives have visible dust and scratches.Initially, I thought about buying a film scanner and doing everything myself. After looking into it, though, I discovered that a decent scanner isn't exactly cheap, and the process seems much more time-consuming than I expected. Between cleaning each negative, adjusting settings, scanning every frame, and organizing the files afterward, it looks like it could take several weekends to finish.That's when I came across Memory Vault Box. From what I've read, you simply pack your photos, negatives, slides, and tapes into a shipping box, send everything to them, and they handle the digitization professionally. The idea of not having to learn scanning software or spend hours feeding negatives into a scanner is definitely appealing.
