Rosenberg Law just served me papers. What now?

Well, it escalated. I ignored the calls and letters from the Law Offices of Gary A. Rosenberg for months, hoping it would just go away. Bad move. Yesterday, I was officially served with a summons and complaint for a credit card debt. I am completely freaking out and have no idea what to do next. From what I've been reading online, I know I have a very limited time to respond or they will automatically get a default judgment against me. That would mean wage garnishment and a bank levy, which I absolutely cannot afford. I found a guide that stressed the importance of filing an answer with the court, even if it's just a general denial. Apparently, that forces them to actually prove their case and stops them from getting an easy win.Has anyone here actually been sued by this firm? I'm wondering if they are likely to settle after a lawsuit is filed or if they push all the way to trial. I'm also confused about whether I should file my answer myself or if that's too risky. I know I need to look at the debt validation and make sure the statute of limitations hasn't passed, but I feel like I'm running out of time. If anyone has fought this firm in court, or has tips on negotiating a settlement after being served, I would be incredibly grateful. I'm in over my head and need to figure out my next move fast.
