Just wanted to drop a quick update here because a few weeks ago I was the guy panicking about my 2016 530i shuddering between gears and getting quoted astronomical numbers for a replacement transmission from the main dealer, and I genuinely thought I was going to have to sell the car as scrap or take a massive loss on it. On a whim I drove it over to a workshop in Sharjah Industrial Area that a colleague from my office swore by, they specialize in BMW Gearbox Repair Sharjah and they actually took the time to pull the transmission pan off and diagnose the issue properly rather than just plugging in a scanner and shrugging. Turned out it was just the mechatronic unit seals that had hardened from the heat cycles and a couple of the solenoids were sticking, they rebuilt the valve body and changed the fluid with the proper ZF Lifeguard stuff and honestly the car drives like it just rolled out of the showroom again. The whole thing cost me a fraction of what I was bracing for and I've put about a thousand kilometers on it since then with absolutely zero issues, even in stop and go traffic on the E311 where the problem used to be most noticeable. I know it's only been a short time but I'm just relieved there's a proper alternative out here that doesn't involve taking out a second mortgage or rolling the dice on a mystery gearbox from a scrapyard, and I figured I'd share in case anyone else is in the same boat staring at a transmission fault warning and feeling sick to their stomach.
