In Retro Bowl, the player is in charge of the group's violation while also serving as the general manager of the group. The game also includes aspects of managing an American football club, such as trading and cutting players, authorizing free agents, sustaining morale, composing players, and a great deal more. These aspects are included in the game. All of the groupings are based on actual NFL teams, but because only Electronic Arts possesses the NFL license for the actual teams as well as gamers, Retro Bowl 26 creates a jersey that is similar to the team's jersey and also puts the name of the city rather than the team's name. This allows them to avoid violating the copyright.
